WoW converts?
Just curious who else is an active World of Warcraft player.. I just preordered from EBgames.com and I'm hoping to get my pre-order package before the April 15th beta event. I'm excited to give it a go.
So who else here plays WoW? Is anyone cancelling WoW to make the switch to Guild Wars permanently, based off their beta experiences? What, if any, are the parallels between the two? Thanks! |

I had every intention of buying WoW when it went live, I was playing the open beta and then tried one of the GW beta weekend events and never bought WoW when it was released. It's hard to explain but I have always been less of a quest type person and more of a macro your guy to max level and PvP till you cant stand it. GW is the first game that made me enjoy the questing, enjoy the storyline, and even care about anything other than the PvP. The storyline in GW as well as all the little touches, the epic music that fits perfectly into every encounter, fast action PvP, ability to solo PvE and lastly just plain fun blew me away.
This is the first game that makes me feel like my personal knowledge and skill outshines my characters level and number of hours played. - Iczer |

A friend gave me his 10 day pass to play WoW. The first 10 levels were amusing but I was downhill from there. It got so repetitive and monotone. The PvP in WoW was very lackluster too. Star Wars Galaxies has the best PvP i've ever played, the thrill of totally JUNKING a dark jedi was great. Raids and the rivalry between the Empire and the rebellion was very exciting. I can't wait to play GW though

I played World of Warcraft from the day of release up until a few weeks ago and enjoyed it a good deal more than any other recent mmorpg's. The focus on questing to gain levels rather than camping was nice, and it had a lot of the little extra touches that I like in an online fantasy game (I loved the scenic gryphon travel, the fact that you could sit down in chairs, build campfires, etc.) but in the end, it was just more of the same. It took what every mmorpg has been trying to do so far, refined it, and did it a few dozen times better.
Guild Wars, on the other hand, completely breaks with convention and, in my opinion, revolutionizes what an online fantasy world can be. They're both good games, but in the end, GW beats WoW hands down in all but a few categories. If it hadn't been for the fact that so many friends from my old DAoC guild were (and still are) playing WoW, I'd have dropped it even sooner than I did. I've been trying to convert my WoW friend to GW. He's fixated on wasting 15$ a month. I'm going to give him my friends pass if it ever shows up *crosses fingers*. I already got my non-WoW friends on board.

I myself was watching WoW grow from its childhood years, and so badly wanted to get into it, and play it... Then one day, Guild Wars had a free open beta, and i said... why not try it... after that, i noticed that my low-end computer could play a Magnificent looking game, in which i think the classes are quite equalized (which is what i look for most in games, and never have found a complete equalization)
After i played that free E3 or whatever event, i put gw in my favorites, canceled WoW and pre-ordered guild wars the first chance i got... That's my only experience with WoW. Even tho it was nice... it just doesnt say "perfection" the way guild wars is. |

That's yet another thing GW has on WoW. The classes in WoW are definately not balanced. Not even close.

Myself and my wife just canceled our WoW accounts. The game is awesome, but ruined by the blatant disregard of issues by the Devs.
I know nothing about GW, but have done lots of reading and have preordered the game. I hope I get the code before the BWE to really take a dive into the game and see what it will be like. But regardless if i get into the BWE or not, myself and my wife will be playing GW. |

I only played WoW as a Tauren Druid in my friends house, WoW will be great without monthly but still, even the Oct 2004 BWE is better than WoW maybe because i was low level
but hey if they discriminate low levelers GUILDWARS WILL ELIMINATE THEM

I play WoW and will continue to play WoW while I play GuildWars. To me, they are two very different games and saisfy two very different cravings. Although with Stronghold 2 being released on April 14th, the BWE on April 18th, and the GW release on the 28th... I can't imagine my final exams during that time are going to be all that enjoyable.

Funny, I have seen WoW and find it to be too cartoonish like WarCraft 3 so I never played it, although I have played City of Heroes. I have been playing CoH since this last summer then heard of Guild Wars. I love MMORPGs and after I saw what Guild Wars was all about I bought the pre-order, played the last beta event and I am HOOKED on it.
What makes it so great is that you are forced to work as a team when you have groups, which is the reason why I have been playing "Tactical First Person Shooters" (CS, CS:S, CS;CZ) for the past 5 years. It is a wonderful game, I was actually surprised due to the NO MONTHLY COST. Normally when something like that happens you get crap but GW has changed my view of MMORPGs and brought me back into them. My CoH account is to be officially removed on the 26th... gives me something to do before GW comes forth and takes me away from my already non-excistent "social life".

I got to level 40 something in WoW...it was never fun from start to finish. PvP- Boring, PvE-NotsoCool, it was a grind like every other game. GW fits my tastes from top to bottom.

The first of my guildies reached 60 some time ago, don't see much more sense in playing the game and will probably stay here with GW, most will at least buy it to give it a try.
I gave that game up after 2 weeks of playing - crappy pvp. =D |

I was excited about WoW. I mean the hype machine alone was something to make Peter Molyneaux proud. Then I played their open beta and quickly lost any desire to play. Unfortunately for WoW (fortunate however for my wallet) I had been playing guild wars for a long time and just found guild wars so much more satisfying than WoW ever was. To me, WoW was just EQ all over again, just a little less annoying. Guild Wars (while not a completely revolutionary product) innovated enough to really make it a completely new type of game.

One thing that I typically dont put much weight into with mmo's is the graphic content. Its nice and all to have a really high end looking game but for me it was always about performance and reducing the lag and frame rate on my pc so I could PvP more effectively, but with Guild Wars I cant get enough of the visuals. Every last one, from the scenic views to monster models to weapons, armor everything looks so beyond high quality its unreal to me. I've never walked around in a game and just marveled at the sights before. I havent yet found any of the creatures in Guild Wars to look less than fantastic. Every single one of them just looks so cool. Whoever is in charge of the 3d modeling and texturing deserves some major kudos.
